Since reviving the landmark 1897 building in 1997, the Friends of the Vergennes Opera House have worked to protect this cultural treasure. Changes in the State’s fire code earlier this year has moved one important project to the top of the to-do list: the installation of a new sprinkler system. The successful completion of this initiative will insure the safety of both the patrons and the structure of this historic building for years to come.
So far, the Friends have raised $60,000 of the $80,000 needed to fund the project, and to help them meet their goals the Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont recently passed a second contribution to the organization.
