Making Contributions Through the Fund

How Does the Fund Work?

1. When you donate to the Fund, you designate the not-for-profit organization you want to receive your contribution. You also choose whether you want to be individually recognized by the receiving organization.

2. For each donation passed through to an individual not-for-profit organization on behalf of an individual donor, the Fund retains a transaction fee of $5 to cover its operational costs. (You may have your transaction fees waived for the balance of a calendar year by directing a gift of $50 or more to the Fund’s operating expenses.)

3. Because the Fund is a registered non-profit, all your contributions to and through the Fund are tax deductible. We will send you a letter acknowledging your gifts which you can use for tax purposes.

Two examples illustrate how this works:

To contribute $100 to your local hospital, you send $105 to the Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont with instructions to make a gift to the hospital. Retaining the $5 transaction fee, the Fund sends the hospital a check for $100 and a letter explaining that this gift from the Fund was made possible by this donor.

Alternatively, you might contribute $1000 to the Fund and ask that it benefit two specific non-profits in equal shares. The Fund retains a $5 transaction fee for each donation, and sends $495 to each of the two designated non-profits. If other donors have identified the same non-profits as recipients of gifts, all donations to each non-profit will be combined.

How Do I Participate in the Fund?

It’s easy! Simply forward your tax-deductible contribution to the Gay & Lesbian Fund of Vermont, tell us which non-profit(s) you want your gift to benefit., and whether or not you want to be identified to the recipient. It’s that simple!
